The Village of Cong in the Republic of Ireland is a quiet and very picturesque area. A bronze statue lies in the center of the village and is dedicated to all those involved in the 1951 production of the film The Quiet Man which was filmed in Cong. The statue depicts the characters of Sean Thornton, played by John Wayne and Mary Kate Danaher, played by Maureen O”Hara.

This unusually quiet Sunday morning enhanced for me, a special moment in time, and left me wondering just how many proposals of marriage had taken place on this bridge.

The Big Muddy Cactus grows in small clumps in the wide open spaces of the Big Muddy in southern Saskatchewan. This hardy and beautiful cactus grows within the grass lands and when in bloom attracts all kinds of insects. Its sharp and prickly spikes is its natural defense against creatures who venture too close.

The Choir of Deer Park and St. Andrew’s United Church in Calgary, commissioned me to paint a picture for our retiring Minister.

Johnson Lake, is approached while driving along the Trans Canada Highway in the Banff National Park. A drive along a steep windy road will bring you to lookout spots and eventually into a parking lot. Magnificent views can be seen across the lake while walking further alongside the lake.

Wedge Pond is situated in Kananaskis Country, in the Alberta Provincial Park. As you go beyond Bragg Creek along the Elbow River corridor, this beautiful little lake is approached on a path through a heavy growth of spruce trees. This particular day, the wind had subsided and it revealed this beautiful still tranquil lake with a perfect mirror image of the majestic Rocky Mountains.

The grand front entrance to Acadia University is approached by an impressive three level stone staircase. Its architecture resembles, to some extent, the White House in Washington DC.
Acadia University’s architect was Charles Herbert McClare. The original structure is in the “modified Georgian Style.

A stroll in a park along a path lined with trees that display colorful and beautiful autumn leaves. Walking towards the open light at the end of the path represents a life long journey awaiting this newly wedded couple. Symbolically speaking, the painting represents a significant union as they walk the path together. They go into the future, hand in hand, filled with hope for joy and happiness.

The Big Muddy Cactus that grows in southern Saskatchewan reveals several tiny bugs that pollinate the cactus. They are protected by the multiple prickly spikes which prevent birds and small rodents from feeding on them.

The Elbow River and the Falls were badly damaged during the floods of 2013. The painting represents a top view over the falls in the direction of the water flow. This painting was started as a demo’ at a large Agricultural Show in Millarville, Alberta, in the fall of 2023.
